Hannah Lowe – Dwelling Places team leader 2006, Uganda

My summer in Uganda was an experience I will never forget. I felt excited about going to a new place, expectant that God would teach me, and terrified about stepping into the unknown.

God did teach me – about a whole host of things:

The beauty of his creation

Uganda’s red soil (not a tan) & lush green plants. Spectacular waterfalls and the source of the Nile. Beautiful children … who find white people fascinating and could spend hours playing with your hair and poking your skin.
Fantastic singers and dancers!

The mess we’ve made

I met people who had no roof over their heads and no food to eat. I met a desperate mother who handed her baby over & refused to take her back because she couldn’t provide for her child.

The wonder of the gospel

I met people who are so so poor yet fully rich in Christ.
Thankfulness of people … who truly depend on the Lord for all things.
Testimonies given by children daily, of the goodness of our God.
We studied the gospels and saw how Jesus really does go to the unexpected places and meet with the most unexpected people.

My Summer in Uganda has opened my eyes. I hope to remember what I saw, continue to be challenged, and put into practise all that the lessons that my Summer brought.
