The Synergy Programme FAQs

How old do I have to be to go with Synergy?

If you are 18 years old or over then you can apply to the Synergy programme.

Do I need to be a Christian to take part?

Yes. You must be a committed Christian and agree with Aim's statement of faith. Aim International is an evangelical Christian mission agency. We work in partnership with the African church to reach Africa's unreached peoples with the Good News of Jesus and Christ , and to develop leaders for the fast-growing church. Everything you will do on the Synergy programme will involve working alongside a church, running Bible studies or sharing the gospel.

How long is Synergy short-term mission?

Synergy offer opportunities to serve for five weeks on Synergy and MediQuest teams, or for anything between 3 and 12 months for individual placements.

What can I do in Africa ?

You will be able to get involved in a huge variety of ministries, which could include medical work, teaching, youth work, sports coaching, music teaching or helping the homeless. We will do all we can to find a placement that best matches your skills and abilities in

Who should I talk to about my plans?

Tell your family and friends what you are thinking of doing. Also discuss this with your pastor or a mission committee member at church. Contact Synergy if you need to chat things through.

How much will it cost and how can I raise the money?

The approximate cost of a placement is  £1600 for a Synergy team, £2500 for 3 months, £4000 for 6 months, £6000 for 12 months (this varies depending on country and placement).

You should ask your church about ways they can help you to raise support. You can also earn the money, apply for grants, organise a sponsored event or hold an information evening about what you will be involved in.

What support will I get while I am in Africa?

The Synergy programme is linked to the wider work of AIM International throughout Africa; when you arrive in your country of ministry you will be placed under the direct supervision of AIM missionaries or partner workers.

What will my accommodation be like?

It depends on your placement and country - it may be basic or have all modern amenities - but we ensure that your accommodation will be secure. It will either be living with a local family, a missionary family or in your own accommodation, usually with another short-termer.
